Santa Monica, a Lifelong Learning Community

Lifelong Learning Community News - AUGUST 2009

State legislators and the governor finally managed to pass a budget; it includes $15.3 billion in cuts. All K-16 public schools will need to dramatically reduce expenses to operate within this financial framework. Several local school districts have passed emergency parcel taxes in anticipation of this budget.

In an effort to preserve existing preK-12 programs and quality, the Santa Monica Malibu Board of Education has decided to form an exploratory committee to research the feasibility of bringing an emergency parcel tax to the voters. For more information on the committee’s charge, please go to
http://www.smmusd.org/superintendent/pdf/ParcelTxFeasibilityApp.pdf
To download an application to serve on the committee, please go to
http://www.smmusd.org/press/press0910/AppCitCommParcelTax.htm
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, August 11. Committee appointments will be made at the BOE meeting on August 20.
